Committee Chair Report

October 14, 2004

Dear Troop Adults,

So much information, so little space! There are several things I want to remind you about.

The committee is still in the process of reviewing the troop policy. I will have copies of the second draft available on Tuesday the 19th.

October 23rd is Super Saturday of Training. New Leaders Essentials is offered at 8 AM followed by Scoutmaster specific (the overnight training is November 5-6). Troop Committee Challenge is at the same time. Later in the day is Safety Afloat/Safe Swim and Youth Protection Training. Carmen and I will be helping with some of the training. After that, we will be able to do some training (Youth Protection) in the troop. If you cannot make the training on Saturday, we can find alternate opportunities.

The Troop will be needing trained adults. Within the next few months there will be several positions that will need to be filled. We need a Merit Badge Counselor/Class Coordinator for January 1. Our Scoutmaster is looking for several individuals to take over portions of the program. The Secretary/Newsletter position will be available in June. There are several key adults in the troop with sons who will be leaving the troop. There are big shoes to fill One really great way to support the program is to become a Merit Badge Counselor. We particularly need counselors for the Eagle required merit badges. Merit Badge Counselor Training will be Tuesday, October 26th during Troop Meeting.

Another rewarding activity is to sit on a Board of Review. You would start by sitting in on one or two. Talk to Roger Woodell if you are interested.

We need adults to go on the Meriwether Camp Out, November 12-14th. It would be sad to have to cancel the outing because we lack the appropriate adult leadership.

One last piece of business. Do you have a scout that did not get a blue card back from summer camp? They need to contact a Troop counselor for that merit badge and have it recreated.

Committee meeting is Monday, October 25th at the DesJardins'. Their address is 16039 SE Grant Street (503-762-0316).

See you there.
