Committee
Chair ReportDecember 2005
Warm Holiday
Greetings!
As the year comes to a close, I want to reflect on what a good
year the troop has had. I don't have the numbers in front of me
(that's Daniel's amazing task - thank you!), but the boys are
advancing in rank - how many Eagles this year? The earning of rank
is more than a new badge to sew on the uniform. It represents
personal growth in skills, leadership and character.
The troop is not only a Quality Unit, but an Honor Unit and a
2005 Good Turn for America Unit. This is not accomplished by a few
scouts doing a couple things. This is the whole unit including
adults and siblings (!) involved in the program.
We have several Order of the Arrow (service) members with more
to join this spring, I am sure. We had Scouts attending Polaris
and Sogus (leadership(). Five troop members traveled to National
Jamboree this past summer (experience of a lifetime). A large
majority of the youth attended summer camp (advancement and FUN).
In November we chartered Crew 542. This program is a co-ed program
for 14-20 year olds. If your son or daughter is interested, let
Clark, Bob, or myself know.
In January we will be finishing up work on a new program called
BSA Ready and Prepared. As a part of this, the boys will be
earning the Traffic Safety Merit Badge at the January Class B
night. Two hours = One Merit Badge. Not bad..........
The beginning of the new year also brings the Friends of
Scouting campaign. I am asking and encouraging every family to
give something. It all helps to keep the program strong and
viable.
I feel truly blessed to be a member of a family with so many
caring and involved individuals. Our children are fortunate.
Peace
M
