Committee
Chair ReportNovember 13, 2006
This month's
Troop Committee meeting will be on Monday, November 20
at the Gastelum home. We begin at 7PM and try to end by 8:30 PM.
All troop adults are welcome and encouraged to come.
We are cruising into a couple of busy months. There is an
outing this weekend. Our PIR Lights nights start the evening
after Thanksgiving. December 1st is an outing to Bullwinkle's
Fun Center followed by a sleep over at the church. We are
planning on feeding them breakfast before they go out Saturday
morning on Scouting for Food. Carmen is putting together a Merit
Badge Madness day for December 30th. After last week's floods,
our date at the winter lodge is in question, but we will work on
that and keep you posted.
With my own son turning 16 and being his Leadership Service
Project away from Eagle, it occurs to me that there will be some
major changes in the troop leadership coming up. My son ages out
September of 2008. I anticipate needing the next chair to start
shadowing me in a year. Our advancement chair's son is a
freshman and a life scout. An assistant scoutmaster and the
assistant treasurer's son is a sophomore and just completed his
Eagle requirements. The record keeper, merit badge class
coordinator, Eagle mentor's son is a sophomore and has finished
his Eagle requirements. Our Chaplain's son is an Eagle with 4
Palms and soon to be 18. Our treasurer, outdoor activities
coordinator, and web master's son is a life scout. As you can
see, many of the troop's key positions are held by adults with
scouts who are 1, 2, 3 years of aging out. Those adults with
younger scouts need to start thinking about which positions they
would like to take on. Being a Merit Badge Counselor is a great
place to begin or expand your involvement. Please let me know if
there is a position that interests you.
Thank you,
M
