French Bowline Knot
(Also Known As: Portuguese Bowline)

Uses: This is another variation on the basic Bowline which can create two or more loops.

Efficiency: 60-75% However, one disadvantage with the French Bowline is that it is fairly easy for one of the loops to get bigger and the other loop to get smaller. This can potentially pose a hazard when hoisting or lowering people or heavy objects because it might allow the load to shift.

Instructions: 1) The French bowline starts out like a simple bowline, but is formed with two loops, instead of one. 2) After forming the two loops, finish, like a simple bowline, by going around the standing part and back through the hole. 3) After forming the knot, tighten by pulling on the rope ends.
