Stevedore Knot

Uses: To stop the rope from passing through a hole, used in many dockyards. Can also be as a temporary method to stop the rope from unlaying.

Instructions: 1) Give yourself plenty of rope for a long working end. Take the working end over the standing part to make an eye. 2) Pass the working end around the standing part. 3) Pass the working end around the standing part a second time. 4) Pass the working end through the eye. 5) Pull the knot tight.

Notes: This knot gets its name from the fact that it is used as a stopper knot by dock workers. A Stevedore is another name for a dock worker.
