Spring 2005

With the first day of spring past us and all of those great rain free campouts we have had this winter keep praying for 3 more dry outings. Starting with Pre-Camporee in April at Scouters Mountain. We will be sleeping in the Fort, a first for us in 4 years. Then, off to Stabler, Washington for Camporee. This is an event where we compete against every troop with in the Thunderbird District. Troop 542 will again sponsor an event and will need about 10 parents to help. Contact Mr. Vermillion if interested. Next, the June outing location needs to be changed so stay tuned for more news on the June camp out. July takes Troop 542 to Seattle for Wild Waves Water Park and Family camp at the KOA.

There has been some confusion associated with the permission slips. Let me try to clear it up for the newest families and those that may have forgotten how much information they contain. On page one, you find where we are going with the dates, times we try to depart (this is when you should be at the church), who is in charge, how many days to pack for, what type of shelter (provided or bring a tent), special notes for the outing, cost of outing and driving/driver information and parent permission for youth to attend. On the second page the top box describes what type of meals we will have (patrol boxes or personal food back pack style), there is also an “eat before departure” or “bring a sack lunch” box please look for the boxes check marked. There is also a note box here and it usually says “limit candy” not “no candy” in the past I have had folks eat candy for 2 days and nothing else. Let them be boys! Candy is not all bad just too much drives those adults crazy. Next is the equipment checklist check. Be sure to have your 10 (ten) essentials in a separate bag or pack to show you are prepared (they are needed in every campout), then there is the emergency contact information.  I have needed this in the past and no one was home please put an emergency contact on every permission slip. Lastly, there is the vehicle information, please keep us up to date if you plan to drive to any outing.

I sure hope this clears up some of the problems I have heard about this year. Thanks.
