Winter 2005-2006

WE CAN DO EXCITING THINGS!

Yes we can and yes we will! January starts the 2006 year with a trip to Aubrey Watzek Winter lodge. Troop 542 has not been to this lodge for 6 years. February takes us to Camp Dakota, located close to Butte Creek. Cost for this outing is for food only, YEAH! (outings have been expensive lately) What will we do there??? Well, if there is snow we can play in it so BE PREPARED. We will also get the last of the First Class skills done and most importantly, practice your menu for the March Cooking Competition! Speaking of March, we will be at Butte Creek for a horse ride, a little compass fun and prepare your meal for the competition. Did you win last year? If you did, then the adults will cook your breakfast, but you have to supply the food. This year's competition will be a dinner menu judged on Presentation (table and serving), Story line (make it a whopper), Taste (judges can be hungry) and use of Patrol Members. The meal must be on the table at 5:00PM sharp or points will be deducted. The judges will be your adult leaders on the outing.

February brings us Red and Green, our annual dinner banquet, awards ceremony and the crossover of Webelos into our Troop. We presented ourselves very well at Pack visits nights and at Webelos Woods. We are expecting 5-8 new Troop 542 members. Please make them welcome.

In November 2005, Troop 542 and Lynchwood Church of God signed the official papers to start Venture Crew 542. Wahoo! This program is for 14-20 year old young men and women. It is youth led with adult advisiors. If you are interested or know anyone who is interested in joining, talk with Bob Dyer, Margaret Chapman or myself.

This past year brought Troop 542 five new Eagle Candidates. Congratulations to Travis Ewan, Preston Dyer, JW Gray, John Hildenbrand and Jason Johnson. Good job! 2006 is shaping up to be a highflying year with one board scheduled at this writing!

Yours in Scouting!
