Camp Meriwether
Camp Meriwether is Cascade Pacific Council's oldest Summer
Camp. Camp Meriwether was purchased in 1926 from the Chamberlain
Family and replaced Camp Chinderee which burned down in 1925. The
site is located on the Oregon coast south of Cape Lookout with
beautiful beach and cove.
We departed Lynchwood Church of God at 6:30 PM on Friday evening
for the two hour drive to Camp Meriwether. About 45 minutes before
our arrival the rain started to fall but did not dampen our spirits.
By the time we packed our equipment to the "Vikings"
campsite, in the dark and down a steep trail with tree roots ready
to snag our feet, the rain slowed to a drizzle and finally stopped.
After arranging our sleeping quarters we drifted off to sleep, or at
least some of us did...

from home. No electricity, No Phones, No TV! (cell phones
didn't even work) |

Each
Adirondack bunked four or five scouts and gave everyone a
dry place to sleep, not always warm, but dry. |
| The Vikings
camp site was nestled on the shores of Chamberlain lake. |

This campout
served as a practice meal preparation for the upcoming Patrol
Cook-Off Competition where story line, presentation and taste
all count toward the win. (Winning patrol receives a meal
cooked by the adults)

CJ tells the
story of a local favorite recipe of little smokies baked
in Grape Jelly and how the grape jelly came from Daniel's
relatives family orchard, the smokies from Bryan's family farm
and the fresh broccoli flown fresh all the way from Ian's
Grandparents sout-eastern farm.
For what it's worth, it didn't taste all that bad!
(CJ, Steven, Daniel, Kyle, Bryan, Kyle, Gary, and Ian) |
| Preston
explains how pepperoni pizza came to be a favorite of this
patrol and how all of the special ingredients came from all
over the world from special family members of the patrol.

It's sure to be
a delight! And a nice job too... |
Mr. Vermillion
has the duty of explaining the adult meal.
"Viking lodge, on the shores of lake Chamberlain,
originally conquered by our for fathers from Iceland, land of
the toughest man. We welcome you to the Troop 542 top notch

clothes and fine china. |

|
|

|
Tonight our menu
includes an Oriental salad with spice dressing, free range

by potato's from the homeland and carrots from local warriors.
Additionally, we have home made biscuits from the most

The weekend
finishes with a chapel service conducted by Stephen where he
asks each participant what his favorite and or best part of
the weekend was. A fine ending for a great weekend. |
