Lewis & Clark Hike

Cascade Pacific Council has created a patch program to encourage scouts to participate in the bicentennial of Lewis & Clarks' great journey west. Several Troop 542 members and their families have decided to take that journey and complete their own Year of Discovery.

In the Lewis and Clark tradition...(spelling mistakes intended)

Sunday April 3rd, 2005 - To days expidition we indeavoured to walk in the foot steps of Lewis & Clark. The expidition party (CJ, Stephen, Bryan, Clark, Margaret, Daniel, Karen and a black lab named Keesha) visited an old Lewis & Clark campsite, now called Cottonwood Beech Washington.
Captians Lewis & Clark were quite disturbed with the news that there were no deer, Antelope nor Elk on which to depend for subsistence further up river. They decided to make camp at this location and to gather enough food and supplies to reach their friends at Chopunnish Village.

The Lewis & Clark and party stayed at this beech from March 31st, 1806 until April 6th, 1806 (7 days, 6 nights).

The Columbia river, much as it would have looked like at the time Lewis & Clark camped at this spot 199 years ago.

The sandy beech where Lewis & Clark pulled up their canoos.

CJ & Stephen walking in the foot steps of the Lewis & Clark party. However, I'm sure Lewis & Clark didn't have store botten trail mix or fancy hydro-packs.

Bryan at Cottonwood Beech, near the end of our 6.5 mile trek through history. Just as in the time of Lewis & Clark, it rained throughout our journey and it was most disagreeable.
The Troop 542 expedition...and may greatness follow.
