Goat/Salmon Creek Hike

This year's Goat Creek Hike started out similar to last year by being delayed 1 day due to rain. Instead of leaving Friday night and hiking at dusk in the rain, we decided to leave bright and early Saturday morning when the weather would be better. Saturday morning came with improving weather so the trip was a go with a minor change in plans, instead of hiking in 1.7 miles to camp, we would make camp at the trail head so that we could bring firewood from home to have a cozy fire Saturday night. By the time we had camp setup the rain started again. This outing was likely David's last chance to get a 5 mile hike in for his 1st class requirements, so we hiked in the rain. Oh what fun!

It rained so hard while we were on the hike that by the end of the hike we were all like drowned rats. Also, several of the tents had standing water inside. It was a tough decision, well... not for most of us, we decided to go home early and not stay the night. Maybe next year.

Stopping at Joes Donut Shop has been a tradition of Goat Creek Hike for several years now. There is no better way to start a hike than with a good dose of carbs!

Welcome to Troop 542 base camp.

Bryan and Sam took some time out of the rain to teach some of the newer scouts how to tie a few knots.

Even with rain coming down in sheets, the creek was a popular draw for the members of the party.

Justin...one of the trail rats...

Bryan in his rain gear, not that it did much good because he was wet to the bone.

Salmon River sure is muddy with all that rain.
